When Job Searching Becomes a Nightmare

You’ve applied for a few jobs but just realized your personal social media pages are a little too personal. For a quick revamp of your social media, first upload a professional picture of yourself to each of your pages. Then, scan your page for unprofessional posts – you don’t have to be completely impersonal, but if you wouldn’t want your grandmother or children to see it, you should probably not have it online. Finally, make a least one post that is relevant to your industry or to the job you are looking for – if you are currently employed, don’t post during the work day! You prepared a professional and strong email to the hiring manager at a great company… and forgot to attach your resume and/or your cover letter. Recover as soon as possible by sending an email stating that you have attached your most current resume/cover letter. Avoid this completely by adding the resume and cover letter immediately when opening a new email draft. Get tips on writing your cover letter here.

It’s the morning of the interview, and you feel like you need to be on TLC’s “What Not to Wear.” You want to convey the most professional look as possible, and keep in mind the culture of the job. Legal and banking services will require you to wear a suit, while you could just wear a skirt and a blouse at more relaxed companies like marketing or information technology organizations. Read more about it on our blog.

You know you need to write a thank you note, but all your rough drafts sound more like a letter to your Aunt Bev than to a potential employer. Here are all the steps you need to take to writing your perfect thank you letter.
