Since 2005, Corps Team (Mom Corps and Corps Search) has placed thousands of candidates in professional career opportunities. We have added a select few examples to shed light on the great work we do!

"She's the newest member of our team, but already a 'voice of experience' we trust."

Client Background

Founded in 1855, Salem Five operates 29 branches in the greater Boston area. As a leading financial services institution, they offer a broad array of products and services to meet the diverse financial needs of consumers, small businesses and middle-market companies throughout the region.

The Challenge

Led by Martha Acworth, Chief Marketing Officer, Salem Five's marketing department is small – but mighty. Each employee is indispensable. When their Marketing Specialist for Community Relations and Events announced her upcoming maternity leave, Martha knew she'd have to arrange for interim coverage.

To compound the challenge, Martha was also considering transitioning some of the Marketing Specialist's charitable foundation responsibilities away from her, to free up more of her time for public relations and social media work. So, in addition to temporary maternity-leave coverage, Martha potentially needed a part-time, direct employee as well.

At a Boston Business Journal Mentoring Monday event, Martha met Nadia McKay, President of Corps Team's Boston office. Martha briefly explained her situation, and then introduced Nadia to Salem Five's Vice President / Strategic Business Partner, Teresa Harrington.

The Solution

After meeting with Martha and Theresa to discuss their needs in depth, Nadia knew that "fit" was critical with this placement. Martha needed a professional who:

  • Had a strong marketing background – yet was willing to perform administrative work.
  • Was available for a part-time, temporary assignment – yet was open to the possibility of direct employment.
  • Appreciated the importance of giving back. Much of the work to be done involved coordinating with charitable foundations and other community organizations; Martha sought an individual intrinsically motivated to "do well by doing good."
Was independent, resourceful and exercised good judgment. Martha was also headed out on maternity leave herself, so she needed a candidate whom she could trust to work well with minimal supervision.

All parties involved agreed that a temporary-to-hire option was the best choice for this placement. Martha would get the short-term support she needed, while having the opportunity to gauge the candidate's suitability for the role long-term. Corps Team got to work immediately:

  • Nadia tackled the critical, yet time-consuming aspects of Salem Five's search, including recruiting, screening and vetting activities. She presented several candidates within one day.
  • After making a few tweaks to the scope of the role, Nadia presented a second round of five candidates. Martha was particularly interested in one of Corps Team's referrals, Meghan Needham. In addition to having an extensive marketing background, Meghan was also: involved in community-based fundraising; looking for part-time work; and open to being hired directly if the assignment went well.
  • Nadia scheduled an interview a few days later, and Martha selected Meghan on the spot. Meghan was able to start work just four business days later, since she had already been through Corps Team's vetting process.

The Result

Meghan hit her assignment in full stride, providing invaluable support while Martha's direct employee was on leave. Martha was impressed with Meghan's professionalism, marketing expertise, service-oriented mindset and job performance.

When the assignment ended, Martha was certain that Meghan would be a valuable addition to Salem Five's core team. Meghan was hired as their Charitable Foundation Manager. She now has a rewarding career which also provides the balance she seeks, and Martha's marketing team is even mightier.

"Meghan really hit the ground running. Her extensive marketing background proved to be extremely valuable during my employee's, as well as my own, maternity leave. Although she's the newest member of my team, she's already proven to be a 'voice of experience' we trust.

"I'm thankful for the help Corps Team provided in finding us the ideal match for the specific requirements of this position. I look forward to working with Nadia and her team again soon!"
