Our Irving client has an immediate need for a strong Senior Accountant to join their accounting team.

This individual is responsible for managing and supporting the Accounting staff. He or she will be responsible for training, evaluating, and developing staff and ensuring they are equipped to handle their responsibilities. The supervisor is also responsible for monitoring the team's workload, delegating tasks and ensuring team goals and deadlines are met. This individual will need to lead a team that faces constantly shifting priorities and demands and be able to prioritize those demands to make sure all necessary goals are met.

Job Duties

  • Manage inter-company accounts between Corporate and subsidiaries – including reconciliation, mark to market adjustments and payments.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly journal entries and account reconciliations for various accounts ensuring balances and support are reasonable and all reconciling items are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Set up new cost center and companies.
  • Review the preparation and distribution of key financial reports for management and auditors
  • Responsible for the preparation of specific financial reports
  • Support and sometimes lead the financial team's responsibilities
  • Ensure all team deliverables are completed and deadlines met
  • Keep management informed of status of team's workload and priorities
  • Support quarterly and annual audits
  • Ensure internal and external controls are in place
  • Support staff during the monthly financial close process by reviewing journal entries, balancing procedures and G/L reconciliations

Requirements

  • Knowledge of JD Edwards helpful but not required (QuickBooks/Acumatica)
  • Strong accounting skills with 5-7 years experience (retail experience a plus)
  • Inventory accounting a very strong plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strong technical skills (intermediate or above required in Excel)
  • Ability to understand complex merchandising/inventory management systems and how transactions flow to ensure financial integrity of those systems
  • Ability to work with the team in a dynamic environment, managing ever changing and conflicting priorities
  • Ability to independently manage the team when required and its responsibilities
  • Ability to work well with people at various levels (including non-financial people)
  • Ability to effectively manage performance of staff by evaluating strengths and developmental opportunities. Also, will be required to implement performance plans to maximize the staff's strengths and address the opportunities.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements/schedules as it relates to merchandise accounting and write commentary to explain variances in a concise, clear manner
  • Ability to evaluate current accounting processes and propose/implement improvements
