The Controller will be responsible for a variety of financial, accounting and administrative matters related to the operation of the family office. This is a participatory role in which the Family Office Controller must be able to execute the duties described below and work collaboratively with internal staff. This position will report to the Director of Finance, Managing Directors and the principals directly. The Controller should be someone who is highly organized, has excellent project management skills, strong financial insight, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and previous similar experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Track and report numerous types of investments, manage capital calls, distributions, etc.
  • Assist Director of Finance with tax preparation by gathering necessary tax information and entering K-1 information;
  • Open and manage bank accounts;
  • Process wires and other transactions, including more complex ones requiring following partnership road maps and procedures;
  • Maintain databases and records, file documents;
  • Monitor, categorize and report on expenses of various individuals and entities using Archway, QuickBooks and Excel;
  • Coordinate and follow up on various projects and tasks;
  • Perform treasury function managing accounts and cash across family office entities and trusts, including bank reconciliations;
  • Prepare and track annual budget vs. actual;
  • Provide project management for all types of special projects;
  • Manage bill payment of all Family and Family Office expenses;
  • Manage and maintain all Family Office documentation (electronic and paper);
  • Carry out day to day accounting tasks and maintain the general ledger;
  • Perform month-end and year-end close in a timely manner;
  • Produce monthly cash flows and financials.


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance;
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, resourceful, excellent time management, efficient and service focused;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Responsive – it is very important that tasks are undertaken in a timely manner;
  • Attentive to principals' preferences and style (intuitive to their needs);
  • Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required);
  • Ability to easily take direction;
  • Strong ability to communicate and collaborate efficiently with principals and family office staff;
  • Seeking longevity/long term commitment;
  • Positive attitude and ability to handle responsibilities with ease and calm demeanor;
  • Flexible in taking on mundane tasks as well as exhibiting leadership in more complex projects;
  • Thorough understanding of functional accounting areas and financial analysis and reporting;
  • Partnership accounting a plus;
  • Software proficiency: Experience with Archway preferred.  Must be an expert Excel and QuickBooks user.
